2006 Musicman Sterling bass that was made in the USA and features a number of extra cost items. Firstly the bass is finished in Vintage sunburst (extra cost option) with matching headstock (extra cost option) and tortoiseshell guard (extra cost option).
The neck is also slightly slimmer, 1 ½ inches at the nut with more of a jazz neck feel than a standard neck. So this plays like my 1977 jazz bass with the punch of a Stingray. This is a one of a kind bass due to the extra cost features.
The finish is nothing short of stunning the vintage sunburst shows the gorgeous ash wood grain – Ernie Ball select the best woods for the sunburst and trans finishes. The neck is Rosewood fingerboard, on a maple neck. The rear of the neck is finished in gun oil which gives it a feel of a vintage bass. This is one feature that I really love and it does not seem to be available anymore on new items. The body is made of high grade ash as is on many of my basses. I have always favored ash for my bass guitars as it provides better sustain characteristics .The Sterling Bass has one humbucking pickup, active 3 band EQ, The humbucking pickup has a 3-position selector switch, chromed steel bridge with stainless steel saddles, 5-bolt neck, Schaller tuners. The bass is also very light weighing just 9 .8 lbs The condition of this bass is as “New” I have gigged this bass only on a handful of times at larger gigs only.
Sound wise the Sterling provides all the classic vintage Jazz bass sounds, all the stingray sounds and more. So with this bass you can go from really deep pumping low end bass to high end funk tones with a click of the selector switch and roll of the EQ. This is easily the most versatile bass that I have owned. The ultra slim Jazz Bass style neck is really fast and very easy to play especially if you have small hands like me. The sound is classic Music Man, warm & fat with defined highs, and great tonal variation possible via the active 3 band EQ. The bass comes with the original Music Man fitted abs case. This is my custom Musicman bass as it has all the features and sounds and finish with the best pre amp system that I wanted in a bass guitar.
