Description
1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom is finished in Tobacco sunburst and has an Ebony finger board with pearl inlays. This guitar is the most used and possibly the one of the best sounding Les Paul Custom that I have owned. The sound as well as the playability is why I bought the guitar in the first place and over the years this guitar has continued to sound better and better. The guitar was made in Gibson Nashville factory in the USA in 1978 and is in excellent condition with a very fast Ebony finger board. The body is made from Honduras mahogany, maple three piece neck with a real ebony finger board. The frets show a small amount of wear but is nothing unusual for a guitar of this age. The neck is straight with a very low fast action and is very comfortable to play.
The previous owner made a couple of changes to this guitar which may account for its stunning sound. Firstly the pickups have been changed to Seymour Duncan’s which I was told were Duncan PAF with alnico magnets. The guitar sound big and crunchy and sounds huge when plugged into a good amplifier as it really does fill the room with sound. The top end has a nice biting treble which has no problems in cutting through the mix in a live situation. The neck is also very easy to play and it has a very low fast action . The guitar is very comfortable to play and it really sits well in your hand. The previous owner has also had a new nut. These combined features of the pickups and the construction result in a really great sounding Les Paul custom that cuts through the mix.
The white binding has aged to a nice cream colour over the years and the guitar is very resonant when played acoustically. The gold on the tuners is a in little worn in places and the gold on the on the bridge has a little wear as you would expect on a guitar of this age. The back of the body has and few scratches and slight worming which again is less than you would expect on a 38 year old instrument. This guitar is very light for a Gibson Les Paul Custom weighing just 10.16.lbs which makes it very easy to play on long gigs.
This is a stunning playing and sounding Les Paul custom which is no doubt better sounding than it was originally and comes with the Black Gibson case.
