Description
1977 Fender Jazz Bass finished in black with a black guard and maple neck with block inlays. This Jazz Bass is finished in my favorite combination of black body with a maple neck and pearl block inlays. The black finish shows very minimal playing wear and has no chunks out of the finish on the back or sides. The black finish has only minimal scuffs on the front and has no buckle rash marks on the rear of the body as I have always been very careful with this bass, even though it has been one of my main live basses it is in first class condition.
The body has no chips, dents or cracks in the lacquer and headstock has aged to a nice vintage honey colour. The maple neck has no unplayable chips or dents and the skunk stripe has never lifted. The frets show minimal wear and are in perfect condition. The neck is straight with a very low fast action and is very comfortable to play. The body is made from ash which I have always favoured for my bass guitars for one simple reason; due to the wood density it has better sustain characteristics. This is a nice weight at 11.2 lbs as does not cause any issues on a long gig or rehearsal.
Sound wise this is a real classic punchy Jazz Bass. I wanted a black finished black guard with maple neck Jazz Bass after seeing the Stranglers J.J Burnel use one early in his career. I also wanted a Jazz Bass that had that growling and punchy JJ tone. In fact no other Jazz Bass that I have owned has really nailed the Stranglers bass sound as well as this one. When this bass is plugged into a big valve head it has all that fat Jazz Bass tone and it sits perfectly with the bass drum. The attract and brightness of this bass really cuts through the mix. The other big plus with this Fender Jazz Bass is that with the bridge pick up only on you can get a superb Funk tone. It also has a superb growling rock tone with the neck pick up backed off slightly which is great for Rock and Blues. Once you play this you will understand why this had been one of my main basses and why it is nicknamed JJ. The bass comes with the original Fender abs case.
